Chronicles of A Creative

I’ve been at East Yard for approximately one month now. And everything that I thought I knew about Visual Arts , I’m beginning to realise that I know nothing at all!

In the movies that I've watched, Art Exhibitions have always been portrayed as an “elite affair”, one where an uninitiated such as myself would not usually attend.

Scenes where persons viewing paintings of abstract art and intellectually arriving at a dissertation on the image would intimidate me. I'd see a white canvas with a black spot - while they'd see gentrification and years of oppression of our people. So you see where I'm going with this…

But, having witnessed at least 3 art exhibits at East Studio within the past few weeks, I've been able to identify with what I've seen. I can't explain it, but there have been at least 2 pieces that have called out to me in a way that I never thought was possible.

And having the opportunity to chat with the artists and hear the stories behind the pieces has also been an incredible experience. These creatives are real people who draw inspiration from life and are able to turn their pains, joys and everything else into literal works of art.

I am beyond grateful for this new experience, understanding that Art can be relatable and attainable. Here at East Yard , ART is truly for EVERYBODY.

I am excited for where this adventure leads to next…till then, stay learning, growing & creating.
